As I mentioned earlier, Investopedia.com provides good articles on those new to investing. Attached is a link which discusses about selling your holdings when your company reports a piece of good news. Ironical? It looks so on first sight, but I totally agree with Glenn Curtis. And it is true, if you read between the lines of some companies' announcements, you will observe that many tend to incorporate some good news in the event of some bad quarters' reporting.
